Optimizing your business website will help it to rank higher with the search engines.


There are 2 ways to accomplish this:

  2. Or you can do it yourself.

Now optimizing a website yourself is going to take some skills. Skills which you may not already be in possession of.

The second thing is to take care of the on-site optimization of your business website.

In this article we will outline the process of website optimization so that you can either do it yourself or – if you feel you don’t want to take the time or it’s too complicated – you can hire a service to take care of it for you. Either way, though, you’ll have a better understanding of what goes into on-site optimization. Optimization that the SEO experts do on their client projects.

The 6 Major Areas to Optimize on Any Website

Title Tag – The title tag appears as the clickable text on a website page’s search engine listing. Also, when you visit a website, the title tag appears on the tab that the website is on in your browser. 

It is very important that the title tag be as descriptive as possible. A lot of SEO experts say that the title tag should be 70 characters or less. We recommend that it be only 55 characters maximum. The reason is that if you get over 55 characters, the characters at the end can be cut off. That’s not very good for the title.
 
To create the title tag of a webpage, you need to go into the page attributes and into the SEO settings and add it in the Page Title field. This can be a little different, depending on what website building software your site was built on.
 
Incidentally, you’ll need to add a title tag on each page of your website that’s available for your visitors to navigate to. This includes your “About Us” and “Contact Us” pages.


Meta Description – The meta description appears as the short, descriptive write-up on a webpage’s search engine listing. The meta description also tells the search engines what that page on your website is about.

Make sure that it includes your webpage’s main keyword.  Again, make sure it is as descriptive as possible, but keep it brief. Think 150-160 characters maximum.To create the meta description of a webpage, you again have to go into the page attributes and into the SEO settings and add it to the Page Description Field.

Again, this is a little different depending on which website building software was used to create your site. And yes, you need to do this for every page of your website that is available to be navigated to.


Meta Keywords – Meta keywords will not show up for search engine users or your website visitors. But they are a great way to let the search engines know more about what your webpages are about.Go into webpage attributes and into the SEO settings. Once there, add your keywords in the Meta Keywords field, separating them with commas.
Yup, you guessed it. You need to do this for every page on your website.


Sub Headings – After posting the content to your website, make sure that you have sub headings. They make it easier for your visitors to read your content. But more than that, they also will improve your website optimization by making your content easier for the search engines to understand.You do that by making sure that the headings and sub-headings on each page of your website are tagged in hierarchical order, with H1 for the first heading, H2 for the next heading (first sub-heading) and H3 for the smallest sub-heads.

Internal Links – Hyperlinks can link content on separate pages of your website. Having internal linking like that makes it easier for your visitors to find the information that’s most relevant for them. But it also helps the search engines learn more about your website.

Image Name and ALT Tags – The images on your website can tell your visitors a lot about what your business is about. They can instill confidence in you and your ability to solve your customer’s problem.

Pictures can also tell the search engines a lot about your business. But only if you properly name and provide an ALT tag for each picture.
 

Yes, each and every image on your website needs this treatment. And where it is time-consuming, it’s not complicated.

First, make sure you name each picture with a keyword or phrase that ties in with your business and what your website is about. Then, when you add them to your website, make sure to go into the advanced settings for each image and put in a keyword-rich description as well.

As you can see, on-site optimization really isn’t that complex when you know what you’re doing. It’s just time-consuming.
